Basingstoke-based Fibronics UK Ltd has un-veiled a new range of Ethernet and Token Ring stackable hubs. The FER2061 Stackable Ethernet Hub is a modular stackable hub designed to provide Ethernet distribution in FDDI backbone and collapsed backbone environments. According to the company, it features 16 ports, expandable to up to 80 ports in a single stack (which operates as one logical repeater); built-in port redundancy to support mission-critical applications; 10Base-5 backbone and optional fibre optic backbone links; and an optional network management module for centralised control. The company has also announced the FR9230 Stackable Token Ring Hub, which is claimed to manage slave stacks that are up to 230 feet distant from the master unit. The Token Ring Hub lists for #2,750; the Ethernet Hub for #1,000. Both ship this month. Finally, the company has announced that Token Ring and Ethernet boards for its Asynchronous Transfer Mode-ready hub, the GigaHub, are in the pipeline. No price or shipping dates yet.
