Samsung has become the top handset manufacturer overall with 24.5% market share in the US, while Google Android led among smartphone platforms with 36.4% market share, according to a comScore report showing key trends during the three month average period ending April 2011.
LG ranked second with 20.9% share of US mobile subscribers, followed by Motorola with 15.6% share, while Apple jumped to the fourth position with 8.3% share of mobile subscribers and RIM rounded out the top five with 8.2% share.
For the same period, 234 million Americans ages 13 and older used mobile devices, said the study, which surveyed more than 30,000 US mobile subscribers.
In April, 68.8% of US mobile subscribers used text messaging on their mobile device, while browsers were used by 39.1% of subscribers and downloaded applications were used by 37.8%.
An increase of 2.7 percentage points has been registered in the access of social networking sites or blogs, representing 28% of mobile subscribers, the report said.
Listening to music represented 18% of the mobile audience while playing games comprised 26.2%.
