L M Ericsson Telefon AB signed a letter of intent with Bahrain Telecommunications Co Batelco for a GSM mobile telephone network: covering all Bahrain, it is to begin commercial operations in the autumn and the first phase will cover 15,000 subscribers; negotiations for the contract are not over yet, during which its value will be determined; Ericsson has also won an order worth $30m from the Brazilian electricity producer Companhia Paulista de Forca e Luz for the delivery of Ericsson’s mobile radio system Enhanced Digital Access System, and signed a contract with the Chilean operator CTC Cellular SA for the delivery of a turnkey system for a public Mobitex mobile data network – the first phase will cover the Santiago and Valparaiso areas and delivery will start in April with commercial operation from August.
