Now that AT&T Corp is within weeks of getting a confirmed public telecommunications operator’s licence in the UK (CI No 2,454), the company says that while it will put in its own switches which will have to be procured on a transparent competitive basis so as to avoid complaints that it is favouring its own switch-making business – it does not plan to create its own network, but will lease capacity wherever it can be had, and there are plenty of networks available now in addition to those of the Big Two; initially it will target multinational business customers.
