In the US, a lawsuit has been reportedly filed against 19 mobile manufacturing companies for suppressing the fact that mobile phone usage could increase the risk of cancer among users.

The Supreme Court is considering a class action lawsuit which has Nokia, AT&T and Samsung Electronics among the 19 defendants, Reuters reported.

For years, advocacy groups have raised concerns about health risks posed by mobile phones. They cited a possible connection between excessive phone use and glioma, a fatal brain tumour. However, studies in the past could not establish health risks cause by mobile phone usage.

Recently, the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC), a research group of the World health Organisation (WHO), classified mobile phones as a possible cancer risk.

The research, which is considered a major review, has found that radiation from mobile phones are "possibly carcinogenic to humans."

The lawsuit has been dismissed by a lower appeals court.
