Be Inc, Jean-Louis Gassee’s new Menlo Park-based PowerPC workstation company, has completed a private round of financing worth in excess of $14m, with August Capital, New Enterprise Associates and Alta Partners leading the venture capital investment. The cash gives the company the resources it needs to respond to the demand we’re already experiencing from the marketplace, said Gassee, describing the investors as Strong, sophisticated in emerging application segments, such as digital audio, digital video, the Worldwide Web, and image processing, where the BeBox shows performance and capabilities out of the reach of older platforms. Be Inc is now preparing to ship the BeBox system.
