At the French announcement of Amdahl Corp’s new mainframes and database server alliance, Amdahl France SA president Jacques Rous acknowledged an overall slowdown in demand for mainframes, but said the largest French companies continue to increase their demand for MIPS and that it it recorded a 41% increase in MIPS demand from its customers, as well as winning six new customer sites last year; Amdahl France also released its revenues, which it said increased in 1993 by 24% to $84.5m, with a small operating profit; Rous said that the company expects to be profitable this year in France and worldwide; saying it has put great emphasis on rapidly growing its service business, Rous reported that those revenues have doubled in the first quarter of this year compared to the same period a year ago, to $6.9m from $3.45m; the agreement with Electronic Data Systems Corp on the Huron product has also led to a 30% jump in licence revenues in this quarter compared with last year.
