Axil Computer Inc did about $50m business in 1994, selling about 10,000 units, and says it will better that figure by 50% to 60% this year. Its best seller is its 90MHz HyperSparc machine, a chip model Sun Microsystems Inc has snubbed. It can get four-way configurations with the chip, something not available with the 100MHz Ross Technology chips that Sun is buying in from the Fujitsu Ltd company. Axil says it may be one of the only Sparc followers to go for UltraSparc and hopes to have its boxes, restricted to the MBus design, out by the third quarter. It offered its design team more engineers to speed things but doubts it can beat Sun at its own game.
