DeScribe Inc of Naples, Florida, has scrapped its Word Processor for OS/2, citing meager unit sales that have fallen to 1,500 a month and losses of $11.5m since inception of the product in 1989. The company tried to spur sales by adding the Mesa spreadsheet, but said this didn’t result in a measurable change in sales. Attempts to find a buyer for the technology were also unsuccessful. Corporate and local area network licenses for the product will no longer be marketed, but will be available upon request, DeScribe said. It said promotions, including the company’s Voyager CD with Mesa 2, will continue until the end of April with technical support for the product continuing for the foreseeable future. It said its next move will be into the Internet products area.
