The US and Canada have a 2,000-mile (that’s a guess) land border, but Teleglobe Inc, Montreal and its Teleglobe Canada Inc and Telglobe Cantat 3 Inc units have decided the quickest route is via the Atlantic and have formed a consortium with Optel Communications Inc to lay a high capacity fibre optic cable, Canus 1, to be ready by next October, between Canada and the US, to complement the Cantat 3 transatlantic system by adding US access; AT&T Submarine Systems Inc will supply the 850-mile cable and Teleglobe Marine will lay it on the sea-bed – from Pennant Point, Nova Scotia to Manasquan, New Jersey.
