Yet another partner of IBM Corp has learned the hard way that big agreements with the company can turn out to be poisoned chalices: Mountain View, California server developer Parallan Computer Inc warns that it expects to report a significant loss for the second quarter ended June 30 and full 1994 year because IBM has ended its current relationship with the company, under which business with IBM accounted for all its revenues. Ending of the agreement frees Parallan to market products and technology under its own name, and presents us with a number of very interesting opportunities in the high-growth server market, the company says; it will continue to receive royalties on IBM sales of servers it developed. IBM had been contributing to its development costs.
