Data General Inc’s CLARiiON RAID unit is claiming to be the first to ship a RAID 3 storage sub-system with the availability of the 2830 and 2930 20-slot arrays for Solaris, AIX, Digital Unix and Windows NT iAPX-86 systems. Silicon Graphics Inc has signed to take the units; no prices were given. Digital Equipment Corp however, would dispute CLARiiON’s claim, with the launch of its Enterprise Storage Array addition to its StorageWorks line. Scaling from about 150Gb to more than 10Tb, the Storage-Works ESA line supports RAID levels 0,1, 0+1, 3 and 5, with all the usual redundancy feat-ures and command console software. It supports Digital Unix, HP-UX, Solaris, OpenVMS, AIX and Windows NT, starting from $200,000.
