Autodesk, a provider of 2D and 3D design and manufacturing software, has reported revenues of $528m, an increase of 11% compared to $475m for the first quarter of fiscal 2011.
For the quarter ended 30 April 2011, the company’s gross profit increased to $474m from $423.3m for the same quarter previous year. Operating expenses increased to $395.1m, compared to $372.5m of 3Q FY11.
The company’s income from operations increased to $78.6m from $50.8m and its net income increased to $69.3m from $36.9m for the first quarter of 2011.
Geographically, revenue from EMEA increased by 8% to $215m, Americas revenue increased by 13% to $181m, and revenue in Asia Pacific was $132m, an increase of 15% compared to the first quarter last year as reported and 11% on a constant currency basis.
Revenue from emerging economies was $77m, an increase of 13% compared to the first quarter last year and revenue from emerging economies represented 15% of total revenue in the first quarter.
Autodesk president and CEO Carl Bass said revenue results for the quarter were in-line with their expectations and continue to reflect a challenging global business environment.
"We are pleased with the progress we’ve made to increase our efficiency and reduce our overall cost structure and as a result, we increased our profitability on a sequential basis," Bass said.
The company expects net revenue for the second quarter of fiscal 2012 to be in the range of $530m and $545m.
