Compaq Computer Corp announced in Sao Paulo that it is to invest another $20m to expand its business in Brazil this year. The cash will be used to upgrade equipment at Compaq’s industrial plant in Brazil, improve its distribution network and sponsor publicity campaigns, said Jorge Schreurs, head of Compaq Brazil. The subsidiary recorded sales of $122m last year, and sold 45,000 computers in Brazil, up from 17,000 machines in 1993, for an estimated 13.5% share of the market. It is budgeting to double turnover this year and broach other Latin American markets.
