Hewlett-Packard Co this week unveils its symmetric multiprocessing workstation campaign with J-Class desksides having one or two 100MHz or 120MHz PA-7200 RISCs in an all-new chassis, today’s Unigram.X reports. Fitted with new Visualize graphics accelerators (they are also available on its existing workstation lines) the two machines for the technical computing market are claimed to provide the fastest three-dimensional graphics and best price-performance available in the mechanical and electronic computer-aided design, software development, geographic information systems, imaging and high-end visualisation markets. The systems use the same Hawks symmetric multiprocessing architecture found in the K Class servers, providing 800Mbps at 100MHz and 960Mbps at 120MHz, and can be upgraded to the PA-8000 when it arrives next year. The unprocessor J200 with 32Mb and 1Gb disk is $33,800, $43,770 with two CPUs, now.
