It’s not clear whether we are talking about a small wafer fab or a large assembly plant here, but it sounds like the latter since it will cost only about $330m but will employ 1,000 people: Siemens AG says it is looking for a site to build a $330m chip plant in either Poland or the Czech Republic. It wants 1m square feet of land in either country for a greenfield project, Karel Sedlacek, spokesman for Siemens sro in the Czech Republic told Reuters. One Siemens official said the company was looking keenly at land around the Czech cities of Brno and Hradec Kralove as possible locations for the new plant, which would open around the turn of the century, he added.
