The Milpitas, California-based NetFrame Systems Inc has expanded its ClusterServer 8500 family of network servers with an entry level offering and a server for mid-sized companies. The ClusterServer 8500 family was launched by NetFrame in January (CI No 2,573) as a line of servers with complete processor fault-tolerance and symmetric multiprocessing. The new models join the 8540 enterprise server and the 8400 family of servers and NetFrame reckons it now has products for all types of network needs. ClusterServer 8510 is targeted at smallish companies using high powered personal computers. It has a 100MHz Pentium, 64Mb of system memory, 4Gb of stroage, dual power modules and supports four network ports. The ClusterServer 8520 supports Windows NT Server and NetWare 4.1 installations with between 200 and 500 users. It too, is uses Pentium processors and has dual input-output buses that support combinations of up to four NetFrame Input-Output and Application servers. As with the existing members of this family, the 8510 and 8520 implement NetFrame’s Gemini technology, a dual processor cluster that runs in lock step mode and is designed to provide the ultimate in fault-tolerance.
