Madrid-based software and systems integration company Indra SA has won a contract from Nicaragua worth $800,000 to process the counting of votes to be cast at the forthcoming general elections there. The first round of the elections was scheduled for yesterday, October 20. To compile and integrate the data, Indra is planning to use Fujitsu Ltd and Compaq Computer Corp equipment with CSP/FX and MS-DOS operating systems, and application software developed in Fortran and Cobol. Client-server architecture, local area networks and application software in C and Visual Basic will be employed to circulate the results once they have been tallied, although the demand anticipated has not been deemed sufficient to warrant the creation of pages announcing the results for the Internet. Indra has sent a team of 12 technicians and consultants to Managua to set up the systems and to advise the Nicaraguan Supreme Electoral Council.
