Apple Computer Inc is expected to ship a Newton-based desktop companion next month to try and get in its two cents of marketing before Microsoft Corp saturates the industry with its Pegasus personal digital assistant. Sources have said the Pegasus Internet personal digital assistant running its Windows CE operating system will be shown at Comdex in November, but recent reports suggest Redmond may jump the gun and reveal it as early as this week (CI No 2,995). If Microsoft is able to convince users that they need a desktop companion notepad, Apple could ride that message and offer what sources close to Apple have said will be a better interface for PDAs than those Microsoft has developed.
