For its own users, Hewlett-Packard Co offers much bigger printers than the desktop models it sells to the world and his wife, and the company has filled out the HP 5000 line for HP-UX and MPE/iX users with the Model C40D, a 40-page-per-minute, cut-sheet laser-quality printer that prints 300 dots per inch and is aimed at people needing up to 300,000 pages a month. It uses the PCL 5 printer language and has a 50MHz MIPS RISC in the controller, which includes 170Mb internal hard disk for font and data storage with 56 HP LaserJet font cartridges pre-loaded.The HP 5000 C40D is $30,950 and shipments are expected in May.
