The Virtual Socket Interface Alliance, announced last month to push standards for the system-chip industry (CI No 2,991), now has over 50 members, up from the original 36. The new list includes some of the most obvious no-shows on the original set, namely Cypress Semiconductor and LSI Logic Corp. Other new members include GEC Plessey Semiconductors, LG Semicon Co, Oki Electric Industry Co Ltd, Philips Semiconductors and the Sharp Corporation. The group – which aims to develop open technical intellectual property functionality blocks for adding to core system chip designs from multiple sources, is to hold its first full meeting on November 6th in San Jose, California when it will focus on forming the working groups that will hammer out the first of the draft standards, and beginning that work with multiple workshops.
