The third generation of the Newton operating system is at the heart of the new MessagePad 2000 and eMate 300 from Apple Computer Inc. Features of it include the ability to share data with Macintosh and Windows machines, as well as a modem enabler list of scripts for 20 to 30 modems, plus built-in word processor, spreadsheet, electronic mail, contact management, scheduler and World Wide Web browser. In the MessagePad 2000, Apple is using the StrongARM version of the RISC from Digital Equipment Corp at 161.9MHz; the screen has resolution of 480 by 320 pixels at 100 dots per inch and it can display 16 shades of gray.
