The IBM Corp ethos is that life is real, life is earnest, and the company is never more unconvincing than when it starts talking about fun and games – but it really is pulling out all the stops to make the new Warp release of OS/2 attractive to those that don’t take life too seriously. The company is promising high-performance multimedia support designed to make it easy for users to transform their computers into televisions, store and view their favourite photos, and host live video teleconferences with friends and colleagues. It includes Eastman Kodak Co Photo CD support, Person to Person for OS/2 multimedia viewer, support for the WIN/TV board from Hauppauge Computer Works, additional audio device drivers, Ultimedia Video IN for OS/2 and audio-video synchronisation and stretching technology. It includes MPEG support, a single Direct Interface Video Extensions application programming interface, built-in Autodesk animation playback support and compressed audio support for developers. As for the games fraternity, the operating system has optimised settings for more than 100 top-selling software game titles and these are chosen automatically by OS/2 when the particular game is loaded.
