Taking on the likes of Avid Technology Inc, Tektronix Inc, Wilsonville, Oregon has signed definitive agreement to buy the business of the Dynatech NewStar Inc subsidiary of Dynatech Corp. Madison, Wisconsin-based NewStar has 40 staff and revenues of $5m a year, making newsroom computer systems for the broadcast market. It has over 300 systems installed worldwide. The most recent product, NewStar for Windows, is a networked system for producers, editors and journalists working on the creation and broadcast of news stories, running on Windows 95 and NT platforms. The software already works in conjuntion with Tektronix’s Profile Disk Recorder direct video to disk system, and fits in with the Tektronix Lightworks editing system.. Terms of the purchase were not revealed. Dynatech Corp has been divesting itself of a number of core, vertical market businesses over the last year, and is re-focusing on communications and networking.
