Insignia Solutions Ltd is telling users to expect the next version of SoftWindows for the Power Mac at the turn of the year. Originally, the company was promising full Intel Corp 80486 emulation this year, but deadlines slipped somewhat. The new version is of particular interest to users that need to run their Windows applications in 80386 enhanced mode. SoftWindows currently emulates an 80286 processor running Windows in standard mode. Last week Insignia launched SoftWindows for standard 68000-based Macintoshes, capable of running standard mode Windows applications up to speeds comparable to a 80386SX 25MHz personal computer, claims Chalfont St Giles-based Insignia Solutions.
