Old Greenwich, Conneticut-based Search Software America Inc has released Version 1.6 of SSA-Name3 to run on Compagnie des Machines Bull SA’s top-end GCOS 8 mainframes. This means that the name search software now runs on virtually all systems. Search Software has also made SSA-Extensions, its software development tool set, available for use with the Bull system. SSA-Name3 enables users to perform fuzzy name searches on large databases that will throw up intelligent name keys. The company says the product can cope with typographical, phonetic and spelling errors, as well as abbreviations, nicknames, compound words and other variations that can often confound name searches. SSA-Name is designed for use in customer information and investigative systems where searches are carried out by name. SSA-Extension enables developers to create more specific search routines. The applications are already available on IBM Corp, ICL Plc and Unisys Corp mainframes and a host of Unix systems. It is also available for different natural languages. SSA-Name3 version 1.6 costs UKP33,000; SSA-Extensions costs UKP12,000.
