Microware has also joined forces with Wink Communications Inc to adapt Wink’s interactive television architecture to David v2.0: the Wink Arch-tecture consists of a compact software component, the Wink Engine, designed to fit into any set-top device or television set. A Wink Engine interprets applications encoded in Wink’s Interactive Communicating Applications Protocol, a compact protocol designed by Wink to deliver simple graphical applications over any transport to any system. Content designers use the Wink Studio Windows authoring tool to create applications encoded for it, and programmers, advertisers and operators can use Wink to add interactivity to traditional television programming to create interactive shows and advertisements that overlay the video or create full-screen applications and services such as virtual interactive channels that can provide national, regional or local interactive information.
