Guildford, Surrey-based Network Managers Ltd has previewed NMC MultiVision, a multi-user, distributed system based on its Network Managers Centre Vision network management offering. NMC Vision is a multi-protocol, multi-vendor system that will operate under SunOS, Windows and – within the next six weeks Windows NT systems. According to the company, NMC MultiVision is designed to enable users to implement a heterogeneous distributed management system which can consist of any NMC Vision system. Each of these systems may act in either an agent or manager capacity supporting aspects of both a peer-to-peer and hierarchical distributed system, says Network Managers. The company says that the product system will consist of NMC Vision systems acting as second tier management agents, passing alarm and device information to a top level manager of managers. The multi-user capability will be client-server based and enable multiple management clients to use the services of any NMC Vision system. Network Managers adds that a unique feature of the system is that each second tier management system has its own graphical user interface, and supports all NMC Vision features, enabling the management of branch or remote offices to be distributed if required. The offering is currently being test-bedded by an unnamed user and is expected to ship by the first half of next year. No details are yet available about pricing on the NMC MultiVision.
