Acer Inc, Taipei, Taiwan says it has been given the go-ahead to restart construction of a $12m monitor and keyboard factory in China’s eastern Jiangsu province. Work was suspended last year after Peking called a temporary halt to many construction projects because it feared that too rapid economic expansion was contributing to soaring inflation. The Suzhou factory is expected to produce 1.5m keyboards and 500,000 monitors next year. Most of the factory’s output will be exported, but Acer says it hopes to raise the proportion sold in China to 50% during 1996.
