Shipments of Microsoft Corp’s Windows95 operating software in Japan totaled 3.8m at the end of March, having been launched in the country on November 23 1995, IDC Japan said. IDC expects cumulative shipments to reach 8.6m by the end of December, when the new Internet add-on software code-named Nashville is included. The new software, which enables the Explorer interface to access information from the Internet or the user’s computer, will be out in the US in November. Of the 3.8m shipments, IDC said 1.9m was to the the installed base, while bundled ship?ments totaled 1m. The remainder was provided in personal computer makers’ free upgrading services.
