Vobis AG, one of the original companies to show off a PowerPC Reference Platform machine, has decided to wait for the Common Hardware Reference Platform before plunging any deeper into the PowerPC world. Last week the Austrian computer publication Comp uterwelt ran a story that seemed to say Vobis would become the next Macintosh clone manufacturer. But Vobis told our sister publication PowerPC News that although it was interested in the idea of licensing the Macintosh operating system, it was not interested in taking Apple’s proprietary hardware architecture. Instead, Vobis would wait for common hardware kit to become available.
