General Electric Co Inc’s broadcasting company NBC has completed its ring around the world with launch yesterday of CNBC Europe, its 24-hour live business and financial news television service. CNBC has been running since 1989 in the US, and launched in Asia in June 1995. Programming will include European Squawk Box, which follows the first trades of the day on the European market and tracks the major movements. It will also include European Money Wheel, which extends coverage to the top 10 European financial markets, and reports market closings live to the US Money Wheel program. Programming will be provided by Pearson Plc’s Financial Times Television with transmission via the Astra 1-D satellite, claimed to reach 7.2m homes in Europe, including cable networks in the UK, Ireland, Norway and Sweden. CNBC will also be part of the digital service from Nethold Electronic Media BV from September, covering Scandinavia, Benelux and central Europe, and M-Net’s digital package in Southern Africa from May 1996.
