The incredible shrinking Digital Equipment Corp has shed another $141m of volume with the sale of its Richmond, California-based 800-Software Inc to Norwood, Massachusetts-based Corporate Software Inc for a reported $25m. The $141m was recorded in the 12 months to March 31, a period over which Corporate Software did $384m. DEC has now raised more than $600m with sales of assets that it deems to be non-strategic. DEC bought 800-Software two years ago, and the unit now has about 300 employees; DEC has an internally-developed software sales unit called the Software Utility, which provides some of the same services as 800 Software.
