Newport Beach, California-based start-up company NuReality Inc, established in February by AST co-founder Thomas Yuen and other ex-AST executives, has announced as its first product a sound enhancement system for computer games. The Vivid 3D system expands the audio signal of any mono or stereo-based game to create dynamic three-dimensional sound, by retrieving ambient sound information hidden in the game’s audio track. It can work with any personal computer equipped with a sound board, providing sound output through powered speakers. It connects to the base unit of virtually any cartridge-based game system, according to the company. NuReality claims that the system requires onlytwo speakers, delivers perfect sound to any point in the room, and does not need any specially-coded audio source material. The company says that it hopes to establish the technology as a standard for computer games, and is planning to derive other products based on it. The Vivid 3D technology is planned to be available in late April, for an estimated price of under $100.
