IBM Corp has launched its first personal computers designed expressly for schools – American schools, that is. The EduQuest 35 and the Eduquest 55 are both multimedia machines. The 35 uses the IBM 486 SLC2 microprocessor and comes with 4Mb memory, and up to 342Mb on disk. The 35 entry-level multimedia system is designed as a student workstation, stand-alone or networked, with built-in video subsystem, and comes in both audio and non-audio versions. A built-in CD-ROM drive is optional. The 55 comes in six models and is upgradable with Intel Corp’s OverDrive processor technology and comes with up to 540Mb. It comes with upgradable video memory, a display monitor for enhanced graphics, an internal CD-ROM drive and built-in audio option; it is for teachers. administrators and advanced students.
