Deutsche Bundespost Telekom says it hopes telephone connections in former communist east Germany would total more than 5m by the end of this year after it installed a record 600,000 new connections in the first half, Reuter reports from Berlin: it made its three millionth connection in east Germany last week, up from 2.3m by end 1993; it integrated its east German activities into its general business on July 31 as they were now sufficiently well established and no longer needed separate co-ordination.
