French geographic information systems developer Apic Systemes SA announced that its British integrator partner, Siemens Plessey Systems Ltd, has acquired 100 Apic licences in a contract worth $7.25m, as part of its project to equip Avon & Somerset police with a modern surveillance system. The system, called Focus, is expected to be operational at the end of the year and will be the only one of its kind in the UK. Focus will combine radio and telephone links, digital data and spoken messages in an integrated system that is designed to provide the police with enough information to react more quickly to incidents.
