The LG Electronics unit of Seoul, South Korea-based LG Group, formerly Lucky Goldstar has finally confirmed that it has agreed in principle to make personal computers compatible with Apple Computer Inc’s Power Macintosh, and will also take a stake in Power Computing Corp alongside Ing C Olivetti & Co SpA. LG and Apple will sign an agreement for Mac OS next month, it said. We will also complete a deal next month with Power Computing Corp for technology to make Power Mac hardware. LG Electronics plans to begin shipping its Power Mac-compatibles early next year. It declined to elaborate on its plans for a stake in Power Computing of to give details on licence fees or estimated volume of production of the machines. Confirmation is still awaited that Olivetti and its Acorn Computer Group Plc affiliate are next on the list of Mac OS licensees.
