A contract to modernise Cambodia’s domestic telephone network may be awarded early next week, the Cambodian Daily said: the contract would involve renovation of the old UN cellular network, now in disrepair, which cost $50m, and at least seven companies are bidding, including Australia’s OTC/Telstra, which installed the original network, France Telecom, Deutsche Telepost Consulting, Shinawatra and Charoen Pokphand Group from Thailand and KC Vinamoto from Indonesia; renovation of the old United Nations Transitional Authority in Cambodia telephone network will restore communications to most of Cambodia’s 18 provinces.
