The primary business strategy behind the acquisition of Maumee, Ohio-based VideoFusion, the developer of digital video special effects software for the Macintosh, by Radius Inc, San Jose (CI No 2,462), is to complement Radius’ hardware system with software technology that will enable the company’s digital video products to be more highly integrated. By providing an intimate knowledge of desktop video applications, the acquisition will provide the capability for the company to build a more robust, feature-rich digital video product line. VideoFusion will operate as a software research and development unit of Radius. The primary strategy behind the purchase is to complement Radius’s hardware system with software technology that will enable the company’s digital video products to be more highly integrated. Radius and VideoFusion initially entered into a strategic relationship in 1993 when the latter’s VideoFusion software was chosen to be bundled with the VideoVision Studio QuickTime-based editing system that offers 60-field, 30-frames, full-motion video at full-screen resolutions. Radius’s forthcoming VideoVision Telecast is a production-level digital video offering for Macintosh that features broadcast-quality output, 16-bit audio and Betacam SP input and output in a rack-mountable system.
