Scotts Valley, California-based Borland International Inc is also not exactly growing at a breakneck pace but the third quarter at least reversed the decline of the first two, and sales were up 7.1%, but profit was marginal at $418,000. The company is working hard to cut its coat according to its cloth, and selling, general and administrative expenses for the quarter were $66.2m, which is an 18.4% decrease compared with the same quarter the previous year. The company also cut back sharply on research and development expenditure, which was down 20.9% at $14.9m. The software products, applications and tools company says that its focus during the quarter was on growing market share and helping customers to move their personal computer applications up into client-server environments.
