Looks as if France has now been forgiven for selling fighter aircraft to Taiwan – Alcatel Alsthom SA said two of its subsidiaries had agreed with the Chinese post and telecommunications ministry to set up two joint ventures, one in Peking and one in Chengdu: both will be equally owned by the Chinese administration and Alcatel through its Alcatel China unit; the Peking firm will manufacture and distribute microwave equipment for the Chinese market and the Chengdu firm will manufacture and sell line transmission equipment; Alcatel Italia will supply the microwave and line transmission technology.
