Digital Equipment Corp yesterday added the DECchip 21071 and DECchip 21072 Peripheral Component Interconnect-based system logic chip sets for the AXP 21064 RISC microprocessor family, and claims to have the industry’s first PCI-to-PCI bridge chip, the DECchip 21050.The DECchip 21071 is a four-chip implementation that incorporates a memory controller, PCI interface, and two data path chips; it offers a 64-bit-wide memory path and is priced at $90 in quantities of 5,000, while the six-chip DECchip 21072 set offers a 128-bit-wide memory path and error correction code and is priced at $140 in quantities of 5,000. Each is sampling now with volume expected next quarter. The DECchip 21050 Bridge, which can be used with iAPX-86 as well as Alpha chips, is $22.80 for 5,000-up and will also be out in volume next quarter. DEC also unveiled its 21064 microprocessor PCI Evaluation Board, at $5,000, now.
