Well well! Digital Equipment Corp was seen to have put IBM Corp’s nose thoroughly out of joint when Eastman Kodak Co gave IBM a vast computer facilities management contract a couple of years back, but then awarded the companion telecommunications contract not to IBM but to DEC; now Kodak has put DEC’s nose out of joint by taking away the contract to manage its internal voice communications network to Northern Telecom Ltd, which will take over responsibility for installing and maintaining telecommunications equipment at Kodak; DEC is not out altogether however – it will retain responsibility for Kodak’s domestic data, video and radio communications networks, and will provide network management services jointly with the Canadian company under a separate operating deal.
