Having taken over the Bedrock cross-system development environment it had been working on with Symantec Corp for the past couple of years, Apple Computer Inc reportedly plans to transform the still-unfinished product into a framework for creating OpenDoc components: Bedrock was originally designed as a framework that would enable developers to write a single set of code for applications that would run under both Macintosh System 7 and Windows, but it will now be redirected towards building components rather than monolithic applications, components that will comply with OpenDoc, Apple’s compound document architecture, PC Week reported; the editor components will be able to be strung together to create applications that can share features and functions.
