Following a successful test of an educational interactive television network developed and broadcast exclusively by NTN Communications Inc, the Carslbad, California company formally unveiled its system in a group of Southern California schools. The network, including weekly quizzes and a variety of custom learning software, is broadcast to schools simultaneously, enabling students to compete academically with each other within their own schools as well as other participating schools. NTN’s Educational Division announced the expansion of the system to additional schools throughout Southern California and into Nevada and Arizona in 1994. Initially, more than 600 middle school and high school students representing schools throughout a 150-mile radius will be participating in the satellite broadcast each NTN offers its system, which includes equipment and installation, to the schools for $7,200. There is also an annual programming and site licence charge of $2,500.
