BAA Plc has signed Cap Gemini Sogeti SA’s Hoskyns subsidiary to assist the airports operator in setting up an information systems strategy, which will enable it to prepare its airports for the dawn of the 21st century: BAA, now a publicly-quoted company that makes a lot more out of shopping concessions than landing fees, says it views information technology as an essential strategic element, particulary in the use of data about flights and passengers; estimation of traffic and personnel management; and airport construction and maintenance; under the contract, terms for which were not disclosed, Hoskyns has set up a team of international Cap Gemini airport specialists to cover overall strategy, sectorial airport specialties and system specifications; it has already installed integrated airport management systems in Germany (Munich), Italy (Rome), Luxembourg and The Netherlands (Amsterdam), as well as an airport maintenance system for Aeroports de Paris.
