The Greek telecommunications operator OTE has awarded Alcatel Italia, Paris-based Alcatel NV’s Italian subsidiary, a $19m contract for the turnkey supply of a packet switching network. To be called Hellaspac, the network will be based on the Alcatel 1100 packet switching system. As well as designing the network, Alcatel says that it will be installing 54 switching nodes in the Greek peninsula, 9,300 modems, and two control centres for the network and modems respectively. Network management and training will also be provided by Alcatel.
