Los Angeles, California-based Trillium Digital Systems Inc has started shipping its ATM Forum-compliant LAN Emulation Client portable software. According to the privately-held company, the software provides the service that emulates existing local networks so that local net applications can communicate over an Asynchronous Transfer Mode network as if they were operating over a traditional local network. The LAN Emulation Client is said to feature IEEE 802.3 and 802.5 MAC services emulation, and provide a Media Access Control interface to existing local network applications such as Logical Link Control and bridge-relay. In addition the company claims that it supports source-routed and transparent bridging procedures, as well as connectionless unicast and multicast data transfer services. The software is written in the C programming language and can be licensed by manufacturers in source form for integration into their products, says Trillium. The offering is claimed to be compliant with the ATM Forum specifications and the company notes it can be combined with other Trillium Asynchronous Mode communications protocol software to develop applications needing Asynchronous Transfer Mode access and networking capabilities. It is shipping now but no price was given.
