Good Samaritans abound in the San Fernando Valley, among them Computer Associates International Inc, which is providing free credits, three-month payment extensions and emergency technical support to customers affected by the earthquake: they can delay payment of current invoices up to three months, and deduct from current invoices for existing or new products or maintenance the equivalent of one month’s average maintenance over the past 12 months; and GTE Corp, a major local telephone service supplier in California, which had a central telephone exchange office damaged in Pacoima, putting switches out of service, is waiving basic monthly phone rates for 90 days for quake victims, has set up phone banks set up at critical sites, and is providing transfer of one number to a new location, or remote call forward for one number, or Personal Secretary voice mail service, and will re-establish phone service at the original location free for all those affected.
